GPA

category: Main Page

Many of the college bound worry about their GPA and how it will factor into getting into the school of their choice. GPA, which stands for “grade point average,” is the average of all the grades that a student has received over the course of a school year. It’s an easy way to figure out how well a student scored in their classes. Basically, the higher the grades, the higher the GPA. The highest GPA one can achieve is 4.0.
The GPA admissions requirement at Western is 2.75. The average GPA of incoming freshmen is 2.79.
If a prospective student’s GPA does not meet Western’s requirements, their SAT score can be used to decide whether or not to grant admission. There are also special admissions. If a student does not have either the GPA or SAT scores required, they can go through the Admissions Appeals Committee by submitting a letter explaining their circumstances and submit three letters of recommendation from school personnel.

The transition from high school to college can be difficult for some students, because there is less structure and more individual responsibility. The best way to keep a GPA high and healthy is to attend class, listen, take notes, and study for exams.
The Western website has two GPA calculators — one that will help figure out exactly what a student’s GPA is, and another which will predict what it will be based on current grades.
