Private School Quality and Personal Attention with Public school affordability

category: Music Department

A high caliber private music school provides low student to instructor ratios with expert award winning faculty. In the Western Oregon Music Department, you get the same quality and "feel" of a small private school, though with a public university cost and social sensibilities.

While a few classes in the music department may have over a hundred students (eg, Choir or the History of Rock), most classes are quite small. For example, class sizes of four to five students are common for specialized study and a required class may have as many as eighteen students.

At WOU, professors are accessible and friendly. On my first visit to Western, I walked across the campus, not sure of where to go. Fortunately a friendly woman came out to ask if I needed help and she then proceeded to escort me to my interview. To my surprise, I later learned that she was the head of the music department.

All instructors practice an open door policy and go the extra mile to ensure success. This is truly the best of both worlds - high quality personal attention and affordable.

In addition to top rate instruction, the WOU music school experience includes a plethora of performance opporunities (something many school do not offer).
